Newborn baby in hospital bassinet during Fresh 48 session at Piedmont Augusta

There is something incredibly meaningful about the quiet first hours after welcoming a new baby. The soft hospital light, the tiny features that change so quickly, and the stillness that settles in before the outside world begins to rush in.

This Fresh 48 session at Piedmont Hospital in Augusta was calm, intimate, and centered entirely around preserving those first moments with their sweet baby boy.

What is a Fresh 48 Session?

Fresh 48 sessions take place within the first 24–48 hours after birth while families are still in the hospital. Unlike a traditional newborn session, these are completely documentary in nature and focus on preserving the tiny details and emotions of those very first hours together.

As an Augusta Fresh 48 photographer, my approach is always soft, relaxed, and baby led. There is no pressure for everything to feel perfectly styled or posed. The goal is simply to preserve what this season truly looked and felt like.

Why These First Hours Matter So Much

One of my favorite things about Fresh 48 sessions is how honest they feel. The hospital bassinet, the tiny striped blankets, the way the morning light falls across a newborn’s face, all of those little details become incredibly nostalgic over time.

This sweet baby slept almost the entire session, making the whole room feel especially peaceful and quiet. The soft light coming through the hospital windows highlighted every tiny feature so beautifully.

These sessions are never about perfection. They are about remembering.

Fresh 48 Sessions Are Designed to Feel Relaxed

One of the biggest worries many mothers have before a Fresh 48 session is not feeling fully recovered or camera ready yet. That is completely normal, and honestly one of the reasons I love these sessions so much is because the focus naturally stays on the baby and the connection surrounding those first hours.

Fresh 48 sessions are intentionally calm and low pressure. There is no expectation for things to feel overly posed or styled. Some of the most meaningful images come from simply slowing down and documenting your baby exactly as they were in those first moments.

For this family, the entire session felt incredibly intimate and peaceful with just mom, dad, and their new baby soaking everything in quietly together.

Planning Your Augusta Fresh 48 and Newborn Photography Experience

This family also chose to document both maternity and newborn portraits, which always tells such a beautiful and complete story of welcoming a baby into the family.

Fresh 48 sessions preserve the very beginning before the blur of sleepless nights and changing routines settles in. They freeze the tiny details parents never realize will change so quickly.
